Hi!

I’m Millie Woods, a 26-year-old photographer based in Brighton. I graduated from the University of Hertfordshire in September 2022 with a BA (Hons) in Photography (2:2).

 

I’ve been passionate about photography since I was 14 — it began as my creative escape from school. I was never particularly academic, and drawing never came naturally to me, so I turned to my iPhone 5 to capture the world around me — the sky, my friends, and moments that felt special.

 

That love grew during college, where I took a media course and learned to use a DSLR camera. My biggest inspiration has always been my uncle, Lawrence Slater, who was rarely seen without a camera in hand. He was my greatest supporter and the person who truly sparked my love for photography.

 

My university journey gave me the chance to showcase my project “What a Drag!” at the University of Hertfordshire’s 22 Runway exhibition, the Truman Brewery Freerange show, and online via Source Magazine and the Freerange website:

During lockdown, I began exploring self-portraiture, resulting in two personal projects — “Bodies”, which reflects on body changes during isolation, and “Clownin’ Around”, where I experimented with make-up and illustration to express identity and emotion.

 

Since graduating, I’ve been developing my events and music photography, working with artists such as Toploader, Pulled Apart by Horses, and emerging bands including Silvercain, Sundale Avenue, and Michy Tree.
